Not possible to fly back expats immediately , says SC

The Supreme Court said it is not possible to fly black expatriates stranded in various parts of the world due to the outbreak of Covid-19.

A bench led by Chief Justice S A Bobde asked them to stay safe in  places where they are presently. If they are allowed to travel it would be contrary to centre’s travel ban. The pleas have been postponed for four weeks.

The centre banned travelling seeing the risk of spreading the disease from those coming from abroad. Apart from Gulf countries, Indians are stranded in US and Britain. They also want to return. If they are flew back now, it may lead to a spread of the disease again.  If that happens, the current lockdown and travel ban could be risked.

It will be ensured that countries with expatriates have access to facilities including medical services. Hope the government will intervene in it. Flying them back to their places is practically a wrong thing, the bench said.
