Attukal ponkala has begun in the capital city with traditional fervor. The head priest lit up the holy herath infront of the sanctum sanctorum. Women devotees are taking part in the pongala festival make it the largest ever women religious congregation in the world. The holy hearth was lit up around 10.30 am by head priest P Eeshwaran Namboothiri of the Attukal Temple. Followed by this, lakhs of hearths across the city turning lit and the region gone in to Festive mode. The ritual will end up by after noon with the sprinkling holy water.
