On the auspicious fucnction of International Women’s Day, Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja, who has the lead role in the state’s battle against diseases like Nipah and Coronavirus, chats about the goals that she is going to achieve for the upliftment of women.
Asking about her biggest dream, Shailaja said that she hopes to make our state free from dowry and dowry related issues. “government is working on its way to completely eradicate dowry from the state. This only can be achieved through creating awareness among the youngsters,” she said.
The minister also spoke about the various programs conducted by the ruling government to improve the safety of women and children respectively. “The government has created the Child Development department two years ago. We were also able to pause the atrocities against women and children to greater extent and ensure proper punishment to the culprits. Furthermore, the government has given the assent to set up 28 fast track special courts to speed up the cases that come under the POCSO Act,” she added. The minister also points that the introduction of Mitra 181, a 24-hour helpline for women. It would be more helpful for the women who faces problems in the society she added.
